CMP's IMPACT GRANT FUND provides direct support to filmmakers in three major areas: EARLY STAGE FUNDING, FILMMAKER SUSTAINABILITY, and INNOVATION IN OUTREACH.

CMP curates the best in nonfiction media and brings it to Chicago - and beyond - through our Partners in Advocacy screenings, our DOC10 Film Festival, our Dinner & Docs @ the Davis quarterly screening series, and our newest addition The Great Chicago Pitch.

CMP supports all forms of media, and looks to promote artists working in a variety of forms to bring about social change.

Our love of innovation in media will be on display throughout our DOC10 Film Festival.

Through CMP's signature Big Table Dinners, we provide exclusive high-quality content from the impact media landscape to members in a social setting.

In addition, we bring members to Sundance, DocNYC, HotDocs and other festivals, providing in-depth, behind-the-scenes access to films, filmmakers, and programmers.

The mix of member-only and public-facing programming allows us to focus resources on the highest-quality content while lending support to media-makers who create lasting change.

Chicago Media Project crystallized after the first Good Pitch Chicago in 2013. Chicago has always been a hub for media and philanthropy, and the groundswell of support from institutions, individuals, cause organizations and philanthropic foundations during this event called for a deeper connection between these diverse groups and impact media.

CMP was envisioned in that moment as a magnet to unite this broad network and harness its power to activate social change.

CMP officially launched in 2014 with four founding ideas:

  • Create engaging experiences to bring people together

  • Connect this community with great media content and in-depth discussion

  • Support, promote and amplify the potential impact of compelling storytelling through media

  • Stay nimble and dynamic in order to innovate new ways of presenting and supporting mediamakers
