THE BIG PICTURE
Through facilitated workshops mentored by CMP staff, our partners at Free Spirit Media, and supported filmmakers, students in the program will create their own media pieces in response to documentary films, learning first-hand how media can move people from awareness of social issues toward the action that brings about social change.
Students will learn cinematography, live audio recording, editing and storytelling from seasoned professionals. At the end of the workshop session, students will have a short media piece to post on social media and considered for participation in the capstone event.
The capstone event will be a public screening and presentation by students from the summer workshops, who will present the final edit of their media pieces alongside the films that inspired them. The theater will be filled with 300+ peers and community members, all gathered to experience firsthand the power of media in the hands of young people.
